Atiq Ahmed Shot Dead: ateek Ahmed (Atiq Ahmed) and his brother Ashraf (Ashraf) was shot dead. Both the brothers got killed in the firing in front of the media in the Medical College of Prayagraj. If sources are to be believed, Ashraf and Atiq were shot several times one after the other by two to three miscreants posing as media persons. What is Custodial Death

‘Custodial death’ means when an accused or criminal dies in police custody. Or death during trial or judicial custody is also seen as custodial death. Atiq and Ashraf were also in police custody and during this time they were shot dead, so this murder is being seen as a custodial death. There can be many reasons behind this murder. Such as excessive use of police force, negligence of the police or misbehavior by the officers, due to which the accused or criminals die. In Ateek’s case, till now it seems to be a case of negligence of the police.

Let us tell you, if the negligence of the police is proved in this case, then under sections 7 and 29 of the Police Act, 1861, there will be dismissal, punishment or suspension of those police officers who have been negligent in the discharge of their duties.

How many people have died in custody so far

If we look at the figures released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, in the last five years, the maximum number of 80 deaths have taken place in Gujarat. On the other hand, if we talk about Uttar Pradesh, from 2017 to 2022, a total of 41 people have died in custody here. A total of 76 people have died in police custody in Maharashtra in the last 5 years. Accordingly, Maharashtra ranks second in the country in terms of custodial deaths. Whereas in Bihar this figure has reached 38 in the last five years.
